The cost kitchen hood or exhaust fan installation will increase or decrease based upon a number of factors. What type of hood do I want to install?

Will the new kitchen hood fit in the existing space?

$0 – When the new kitchen hood will fit where the old one previously fit

$$ - When cabinets need to be removed or other structural modifications need to be made in order for the new kitchen hood to fit

How big does the range hood need to be? (The hood should cover a majority of the cooktop surface.)

$ - When there is a four burner cooktop

$$ - When there is a six burner cooktop

What type of material will the hood be made of?

$ - Standard black or white metal

$$ - Stainless steel

Will the hood recirculate air or vent to the exterior?

$ - When the kitchen hood only filters and re-circulates

$$ - When the kitchen hood will exhaust air to the exterior (If a duct or vent is not already installed, you may need to hire an HVAC professional to do so.)

How much fan capacity is needed? Fan capacity is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM).

$ - When the hood is for an electric cooktop that typically requires a lower CFM rating

$$ - When the hood is for a gas range that typically requires a higher CFM rating

Does the kitchen hood need to have any accessories?

$$ - When a food warming shelf is built in to the hood

$$ - When there is a sensor that will automatically turn the fan on when the temperature rises
